Bulfleet is the first game created by XS Software. It was first released in 2004 and has now been revamped for the relaunch of Universe 1. We have had the chance to speak to CEO Hristo Tenchev about the history and evolution of Bulfleet and about the future plans for the game.

Galaxy-News: Hi Hristo! Please introduce yourself to our readers. What’s your position at XS Software?

Hristo: Hello, thank you for the interest in our games. My name is Hristo Tenchev and currently I am a Managing Director at XS-Software.com.
When I have time I take part in the development of our games as well.

Galaxy-News: Please give a brief description of Bulfleet and tell us when and why you started working for it?

Hristo: Bulfleet is a space online browser game, free to play. We started working on it in the middle of 2004 and completed the beta phase of the game in November 2004. This is our first game, which actually kicked off our company. It turned out to be a huge success in Bulgaria, because of its easy, but complex in depth gameplay.

Galaxy-News: What is your personal highlight within the game? What are you proud of?

Hristo: Well, first of all I am proud that Bulfleet is the first Bulgarian MMOG, it lead to the development of many other good online games like Khanwars or our friends of Imperia-Online and I can honestly say that our team is the one responsible for the development of this business area in Bulgaria.
With our international versions of the game we hope to attract more players from all over the world to experience the gameplay the games offer. I am also proud to introduce for the first time in an interview the third version of the game which started a couple of days ago. Now we have even more complex battle system.

Galaxy-News: You recently relaunched the first universe being played by more than 100.000 players. What are the most important changes?

Hristo: The most important new things are two, for the first time ever we introduced a new race, the mighty Miops. This new race has an unique bonus spaceship, called the Star Fighter. Most important is that we rewrote the whole battles engine, so now during a star war the ships use AI to regroup themselves and actually act a lot smarter in order to win a battle. There are some balance modifications as well.

Galaxy-News: Implementing another race can make a huge difference to a game. How do the people like the update? What is the communities' influence on future development plans?

Hristo: Yes, of course. That's what we are trying to accomplish. The game has already a 3-year history and it needs something like this. The new race is historically bounded as well. The Miops are the ancestors and creators of the Noxis (war-oriented bulfleet race). The Noxis had won their freedom in the past and they had fled from the mighty Miops, however, now the masters have returned to claim what they believe to be theirs. The first impression is that the players like the new race, it is good balanced and offers an unique ship which can be used on some special types of missions - that's something which the other races can not do.
It is still early to say if there are going to be any modifications, the players need some time to adjust their strategies according to the new race, but for sure it will need some balancing.

Galaxy-News: How much time does a player have to spend within your game on an average day to stay on top?

Hristo: That depends on many factors. You can stay 15 hours and if your actions are lame and your strategy sucks, you won't be able to reach the top. However, if you are good decision maker with a hell of a team (alliance) behind your back you can rock the game with 3-4 gaming hours. The game offers many save options for those who are not able to login too often as well.

Galaxy-News: What technology do you use and why?

Hristo: We stick to the classics using optimized PHP as a platform and JS for better interaction. The game core, on the other hand, is user-independent so this gives us the opportunity to have a real realtime strategy over the web and a better bug defense so to say.

Galaxy-News: I heard you brought along a little gift for our readers?

Hristo: Yes, we are happy to provide Galaxy News with 1000 Nanocredits (that's approx 10 months of Premium accounts). Good luck to all the readers!

Galaxy-News: Thanks for the interview and all the best for the future!

Hristo: Thank you, I wish to Galaxy News and all of your readers good luck and many successful on-line battles :)
