Browser Game of the Year 2007: The winners

Rien ne va plus! All votes are counted. Our jury had to make some difficult decisions but in the end the winners of the Browser Game of the Year 2007 award were found! Find out if your favorite managed to convinced the jury. And which game can claim the sought after Community Award. Read on for the answers....

We proudly present the jury's favorites in the different categories. First off:

 

Browser Game of the Year 2007

Fresh gameplay, innovative ideas, some nice graphics and so much more. Brevity is the soul of wit, so: Travians has convinced the jury with an astonishing overall package.

 

Best Concept

Weewar
Weewar

There are many reasons for the jury's decision in this category: Weewar is made after a brilliant concept and includes many innovative ideas and features such as the Weewar API or the live ticker on the landing page.

Best Graphics

Arthic
sodigital

Arthic truly convinced the jury where graphics are concerned. It does pair beautiful in-game graphics

with excellent visual characteristic.

The jury was hard pressed to decide the Technical Achievement award ad so it goes to as many as 4 games this year:

The German RPG Beryl Tales convinced the jury with a brilliant use of technology. 

Robofighter
Pixeltamer/Bigpoint

Robofighter was also able to leave a permanent impression with our jurors.

Travian Games

Same with Travians. The Browser Game of the Year surely does know how to enthuse technically.

Weewar
Weewar

And again Weewar. A game packed with technical achievements.

 

 

Best Gameplay

Best Gameplay goes to... Travians.

Best Story

Cthulhu Nation
Twisted Empire

Cthulhu Nation inspired the jury with its great story line. This game is based on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and shows that you can't beat a good story!

 

Best Action Game

Arthic

Perfect graphics and a smashing multiplayer experience. Arthic has taken a shine to our jury when it comes to action. The possibility to directly start playing without a long registration process underscores the jury's decision.

 

Best Strategy Game

The German strategy game Skaph would have been another a good winner where graphics and overall presentation are concerned. It is accompanied by great short movies to better emerse the player in the plot.

Empire Universe 2

Empire Universe 2 was also able to leave its mark and thereby continues the track record of Empire Universe.

Mythlands
XS Software

The successful mix of RPG and Strategy has already been able to draw the attention. Our jury was unable to resist and elected Mythlands as one of the winners of the Best Strategy Game.

 

Best Sports Game

Footiecup

You won't be able to come past FootieCup if you want to dip in the world of sports, more precisely the world of soccer. That is why the jury named it Best Sports Game of 2007.

Business Sim, RPG and Casual Game are further categories in which the jury elected it's favorites.

Best Business Sim

Medieval flair and business are not mutually exclusive, proven by Kapi-Regnum. The specialists from upjers created the jury's favorite Business Sim.

 

Best RPG

Travians has also rendered outstanding services to the RPG sector as far as our jury is concerned.

 

Best Casual Game

Crafty Studios

How about a quicky? If you like something a bit more casual, you should give Kuwis a try. Classics such as Solitaire or Battleships are much more fun to play with others in Kuwis' pixel town.

Let's check on the remaining categories: Innovative Studio Award and Best Hobby Project. What was first class in 2007?

Innovative Studio Award (Best Newcomer)

Innovative Studio Award (Best Newcomer) goes to Weewar. Weewar surely is one innovative studio. A great concept paired with brilliant technology is what makes it the Best Newcomer.

 

Best Hobby Project

Xhodon

An last but not least of the jury categories: Best Hobby Project. Xhodon is a worthy example for a successful hobby project. It's ability to convince a huge amount of players in a very short time speaks for itself.

 

Let's finish of with the arguably most important prizes: The Community Award was split into three sub-categories.

Community Award 10.000+ players

Kapi-Regnum was able to not only convince the jury, but leave a big impression with the audience, too. Top flight in our "big player" category.

 

Community Award: 1.000 to 10.000 players

Project: World War
Xfer

Project: World War now has to give thanks to it's community for winning the Community Award for "medium sized games".

 

Community Award: less than 1.000 players

Ritterheere im Mittelalter
MW Ritterheere GbR

Surely there are a lot more players to be coming to this game: The German "Ritterheere im Mittelalter" has won the "small game award".
